The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted livelihood worldwide and the education sector is among the worst-hit with most of its activities have shifted online. As a new admission session approaches, concerns about which college to apply for is growing among students. most of the countries are dealing with coronavirus.  international borders of almost every country are closed. Students who are interested to get admission in foreign institutes are having a hard time figuring out which country or institute to opt for.

To ease your worries and provide some reprieve during the crisis,  we have listed the top three universities in six continents:

1.Asia

a. National University of Singapore (NUS) – Founded in 1905 as the strait’s settlements and the Federated Malay States Government Medical College, it is the oldest institution in Singapore. NUS ranks 1st in Asia-Pacific consistently and is ranked within the top 100 universities across the world. It offers a wide range of disciplines at both PG and UG levels including medicine, dentistry, design, sciences, environment, law, social sciences, art, engineering, computing, business and music. Its campus, located in the southern part of Singapore adjacent to Kent Ridge, is spread out over an area of 150 hectares.

b. Nanyang Technological University (NTU) – Is 13th on the QS World University Rankings and 2nd in Asia. NTU is the second oldest public autonomous research university in Singapore. With around 33,500 students and 10,000 staff and faculty member, the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various disciplines. It includes engineering, medical, arts and humanities, business, medical, social sciences and sports sciences. The university has a strong research culture that resulted in many world-class inventions.

c. Tsinghua University, China – Tsinghua University is the most prestigious reseach university in Beijing. It was established in 1911 under the name “Tsinghua Xuetang”. Tsinghua University is committed to the advancement and well being of the nation and the world through teaching, research and innovation. Tsinghua greatly values interaction between Chinese and western cultures, with the aim to train its students with integrity. It offers 51 bachelor’s degree (UG) courses, 139 master’s degree (PG) courses, and 107 doctoral programmes through 20 colleges and 57 departments covering a broad range of subjects.


2. Europe

a. University of Oxford, UK – University of Oxford is a collegiate research university in Oxford, England. Though it does not have any known foundation date, evidence of teaching goes back to 1096. It is the oldest university of the UK and the world’s second-oldest university which is still operational. Oxford University regularly ranks within the top 5 Universities in the world. It is regarded as one of the world’s leading academic institutions with 38 independent colleges and 6 permanent private halls. Oxford is a member of the Russell Group of research-led British universities, the Coimbra Group, the league of European Research Universities and Europaeum. It is located in southern England,around 90 minutes from London. It has been ranked 2nd in the Times University Guide 2020,3rd in the Guardian University Guide2020, 5th in QS World University Rankings 2021 andfirst in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020

b. ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) – ETH Zurich ranks 6th worldwide. It is known for its cutting-edge research and innovation. Founded by the Swiss Federal government in 1854, the university is known for its cutting edge research in the field of medical and technology. so it is among the most sought universities in the field of engineering and research around the world.

c. The University of Cambridge – Founded in 1209 it is located Cambridge. it was granted a charter by King Henry III in 1231. It is ranks 7th in the QS world ranking and is the alma mater of many famous personalities including Prince Charles, J. Robert Oppenheimer, the famous mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and many others. While, the acceptance rate of the university is 21% and it offers courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate disciplines.


3. Africa

a. University of Cape Town South Africa – Founded in 1829 it is the oldest educational institute in South Africa located in Cape Town in its Western Cape province. According to several rankings, The University of Cape Town is the most prestigious African University. It comprises 57 departments in 6 faculties. The six faculties include – Commerce, Engineering and the Built Environment, Health Sciences, Sciences and Humanities.

b. The University of Witwatersrand – It is located in South Africa, and ranks second in the African continent. It is also the co-founder of the African Research University Alliance. It is famous for its research and has also contribution to the search of Higgs Boson at CERN.

c. The America University in Cairo, Egypt – The American University in Cairo is an independent, English language, private research university. AUC offers American-style learning courses at Undergraduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) and professional levels. It offers 37 bachelor’s degree programmes, 44 master’s degrees and 2 doctoral degrees in applied sciences and engineering. AUC also offers a wide range of graduate diplomas in Business, Global Affairs and Public Policy, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences and Engineering and Graduate school of Education. Founded in 1919 by the American Mission in Egypt and its student body has representation from over 50 countries.


4. Australia and Oceania: –

a. Australian National University (ANU) – Australian National University is located in Canberra, the capital of Australia. Founded in 1946, it ranks first in QS world ranking. The campus of ANU, spread over 38 acres, attracts students and scholars from across the world creating a diverse and enriching community. It offers a wide variety of degree combinations, more than any other Australian University. AUN offers higher education degree programmes including pre-bachelor degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.

b. The University of Sydney – It is ranks 40th in the world. In the category of graduate employability, it is ranks 4th in the world and first in Australia. It offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the disciplines of Engineering, Social Sciences, Medicine, Music, Law, Business and Architecture. The 400-acre campus hosts more than 70,000 students.

c. The University of Melbourne, Australia (Unimelb) – The Unimelb is the second oldest university in higher education and research in the country. It ranks third in the Qs world rankings. University is famous for its research and excellent teaching. It has a community engagement of more than 160 years. It has affiliation with 200 clubs and societies. Also, there are 11 separate academic institutions within the premises.


5. North America:

a. Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Situated in Cambridge, United States, MIT is the best university in the world. It is the alma mater of many world leaders and prominent business leaders including Benjamin Netanyahu, Raghuram Rajan, William Clay Ford Jr., Kofi Annan and many more. The acceptance rate at the university is 7% and is famous for its cutting-edge research. It boasts of more than 10 labs.


b. Stanford University – Stanford University is located in California. It ranks 2nd in the QS world university rankings. It is one of the leading universities for research in the world. The acceptance rate at the university is 5% and it is the alma mater of many entrepreneurs such as Elon Musk, Larry Page, Sergey Brin. It is also the alma mater of India and Asia’s Richest man Mukesh Ambani. It offers courses in Medicine, Law, Humanities and Science, Engineering, Education, Earth and Business.


c. Harvard University – Founded in 1636 the institute is located in Cambridge, 2 miles away from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It is ranks 3rd in the QS world rankings and is among the most prestigious institutes in the world. It is the alma mater of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Actor Matt Damon, 26th U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt and founder of Microsoft Bill Gates and many more. However, its acceptance rate is 5% and hosts more than 20,000 students from all over the globe.

All these three universities have produced several Nobel prize winners and many of them still teach in these universities.



6. Latin America (South America):


a. Universidad de Buenos Aires – It is located in Argentina. It is ranks 66th in the QS world ranking. It was founded in the year 1821 and is a public research university. However, it is the best university in the South American continent which has produced four Nobel prize winners and also the Marxist guerrilla fighter Che Guevara.

b. Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)
UNAM is a public research university located in Mexico City. It ranks 100th in the QS world rankings. It is the alma mater of 6 Mexican presidents and many other known politicians, diplomats, authors and scientist.

C. Universidad de Sao Paulo – the University of Sao Paulo ranks 115th in the QS world rankings. Also, it ranks third in the Latin American continent. It is is the largest public university in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It offers 249 undergraduate programs in Medical and Nursing Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dentistry, Economics, Business Administration and Accounting, Law, Physical Education, and an undergraduate program in Music.
