A ray of happiness has finally struck some light in this dark era of pandemic. Aiming to launch an indigenous Covid-19 vaccine by August 15, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has written to select medical institutions and hospitals to fast-track clinical trial approvals for vaccine candidates.
The selection of the day is in itself a proud day for Indians and launching vaccine on the same day is an icing on the cake, says a letter of ICMR to institutions involved in developing the vaccine for the viral infection.
Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General (D-G), ICMR has written to the institutions that said, “this is the first indigenous vaccine being developed by India and is one of the top priority projects, which is being monitored at the topmost level of the government. It is envisaged to launch the vaccine for public health use latest by August 15 after completion of all clinical trials.”
ICMR is working in collaboration with pandemic vaccine leader, Bharat Biotech to develop Covaxin (BBV152) vaccine against Covid-19. They have identified 12 clinical trial so far. The apex health search body has asked the medical institutions and principal to ensure that the subject enrollment is initiated no later than July 7.
