Cricket Fanaticism in India’s Misogynist Trolls

The misogyny of men in India is visible through the comments on Sakshi Dhoni’s Instagram account. On the 7th of October 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a match. In the match, CSK failed to chase a 168-run target. They lost the match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni were brutally trolled on social media after the match. Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi got the threats on her Instagram account for their 5-year-old daughter. However, this is nothing new to the game with such a huge fan base. The so-called fans abuse cricketers on social media along with their girlfriends or wives.

CSK, not the first to be trolled

Sometime ago when Royal Challengers Bangalore were not playing well, we witnessed Anushka Sharma being dragged. She was labeled as “bad Luck”. Many memes and jokes followed as wherever she came, Virat lost the matches. During those days CSK was playing well and RCB was going through tough times.

Check out the old but deviant memes and trolls:

Before CSK’s Dhoni, Umesh Yadav faced the same trolling

Umesh Yadav was trolled for his poor performance in Royal Challengers Bangalore against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 21st September 2020. RCB beat SRH by ten wickets. RCB scored 163 for 5 wickets. They bowled out the opposition for 153. Most of the RCB bowlers were good except Umesh Yadav. He failed to take any wicket and gave away 48 runs in 4 overs.

In his very first over, he conceded two wides, a four and a six before conceding two more fours in his second over. In his third over, Bairstow hit him for another six and a four. He went on to concede 14 runs in his final over.  Fans took to Twitter to troll him. They came up with several memes to take shots at the pacer.

Even Virat Kohli faced trolling

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab on 24th September was a chance where fans got a chance to troll Captain Virat. Kohli dropped his counterpart KL Rahul twice. Royal Challengers Bangalore paid a big price for those two costly drops. Fans took to Twitter to troll Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli over his second successive flop. It was an easy catch and Virat Kohli had positioned himself for the same but somehow, he missed it.

CSK vs Kings XI Punjab match gave another chance to troll cricketers

Three-times champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab faced each other in the 18th-day match of IPL. Fans of the CSK expressed their disappointment and questioned MS Dhoni’s decision to retain star all-rounder Kedar Jadhav. He is yet to make his presence feel in the cash-rich league. CSK fans triggered a meme-fest to hilariously troll Jadhav on social media.
