The new IPL season began with an intense match between CSK and MI after a long wait. Summer in India means mangoes and IPL. People wait for the IPL season every year as they cheer on their favorite teams. This year is a different story. The coronavirus pandemic has not left a single sector be it sports or the economy. People who once graced the stands of the stadium are now replaced with cardboard cut-outs. Even the noise of the audience is fake. To keep the cricket spirit alive, IPL is simulating audience cheers. They even have a virtual guest box that features people from all around the country. Fans await the next CSK Vs. DC match. Here are some tricks being used in the IPL to keep the matches lively:

Audience cheer in IPL

IPL is simulating fake audience cheer. Netizens noticed this in the first match of CSK Vs MI. Twitter erupted with memes and funny reactions to this fake cheer. The cheer played out whenever a batsman hit a boundary or when someone took a wicket. It sure kept everyone intrigued. The deed started a laughter riot on social media. It was really awkward the first time, but is now the new normal.  Rishabh Srivastava tweeted, “People watched FRIENDS with a fake laugh and complaining about fake crowd voice in IPL.” On the other hand @desimoito had this funny response. “Fake crowd noise in background is just like bots cheering on Social Media for Rahul Gandhi to become PM #IPL2020.”

Cardboard cut-outs

The stadium was almost empty except the players, coaches and a few privileged members. The stadium could not be left vacant and hence to spread some cheer, IPL placed cardboard cut-out. This trick has earlier been used in Rugby and Football matches. The move ensured that the seats looked full and lively.  Earlier the camera panned at the audience and many people became famous as well. We all remember the Bangalore girl and the Pakistani fan. They became huge meme material and went viral. The cardboard cut-outs have followed the same path.

Virtual guest box

The virtual guest box featured people who had won contests and got a chance to be the center of attention for a some time. They later got the opportunity to get a ball signed by the winning captain. Now the virtual box features enthusiastic people who win in certain contests. These people cheer on their favorite teams. It is lovely to see happy faces amidst the pandemic.

Looking forward to the match between CSK & DC

CSK lost their last game to the RR by 16 runs, but they can still be happy because of the fact that they crossed the 200-run mark in Sharjah. In their third game of the 2020 IPL, MS Dhoni and Co would be facing the Delhi Capitals, captained by Shreyas Iyer. The match will take place on Friday, September 25 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

DC had a lucky escape against KXIP in the Super Over affair in Dubai itself. They will be looking for a more tough show this time. In their last three matches, the Super Kings have got the better of the Capitals and would want to carry on their winning streak. The two teams have locked horns once in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2014 with CSK winning.
