Ranchi: Rural Management Programme of Xavier Institute of Social Service, (XISS) Ranchi in collaboration with Save The Children organized an Online Inter College Debate Competition on the issue of learning continuity amid pandemic on July 16. It was supported by PRAKRITI- the Students’ Club of RM .
The topic for the debate was “Online Education is a Hindrance to The Right to Education”. Dr. Raj Shree Verma and Soumi Halder coordinated the competition on behalf of XISS and Save The Children respectively.
Keynote Speaker, Deputy Director of Education at Save the Children, Kamal Gaur, expressed her thoughts on how everyone is facing some or the other problem in this pandemic. She further said that inaccessibility of device became a hardship for families and thus continuing education became difficult for children.
Five teams participated in the debate at XISS

The judges panel consisted of Deputy Director-Programme Management (E), Save The Children Chittapriyo Sadhu, ; HoD of Rural Management Programme of XISS, Ranch Dr. Himadari Sinha, ; Executive Director of The Coalition for Food and Nutrition Security Dr. Sujit Ranjan, and Ms. Kamal Gaur.


The debate competition began with the first round in which constructive arguments by the teams were put forward in For and Against the motion. The Second Round was the Rebuttal Round. It showcased the presence of mind and knowledge of the topic in the participants. Final Round 3 was a question-answer round in which Judges asked questions to the teams.

towards each other. Digital is an option but there should not be digital divide.”-Dr Himadri Sinha
Dr. Sujeet Ranjan believed that the session had wonderful learning session with great participation, great facilitation with great suggestions.
Yugit Bhardwaj and Shipra Das from XIM University won the first prize.
Anjali and Shiwani, from XISS stood Runner up.
Paromita Mazumdar from Save the Children proposed a Vote of Thanks. The event was moderated by Ms. Purvaa Ghosh and Ms. Priyanka Ghosh.
