YouTuber asks Akshay Kumar to withdraw Rs 500 cr defamation notice

YouTuber Rashid Siddiquee has opposed the defamation notice issued against him by Akshay Kumar in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Moreover, he refused to pay Rs 500 crore in damages sought by the star. He said there was nothing defamatory in his videos. Furthermore, he asked Akshay Kumar to withdraw the notice. Failing this, he would initiate appropriate legal proceedings against the star.

Defamation notice against YouTuber

On November 17, Akshay Kumar issued a Defamation notice against Siddiquee. The defamation notice seeks Rs 500 crore in damages for making false and baseless allegations against him in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.

Siddiquee’s statement

The notice mentions the Youtuber publishing several defamatory libellous and derogatory videos. These videos were uploaded on the Youtube channel, FF news which is run by Siddiquee. The notice was sent through the Law firm I C Legal.

On Friday, Siddiquee sent his reply through his advocate J P Jayswal. In his reply, he said that Akshay Kumar is making false, vexatious and oppressive allegations with an intent to harass him.

It added that following the Rajput’s death, several independent reporters and Sidiquee too covered the news as it involved many influential people. Moreover, Other prominent media were more providing correct information.

The fundamental right to freedom and speech

Every Indian citizen has the fundamental right to freedom and speech, the reply further claimed. The content uploaded by YouTuber cannot be considered defamatory. They are to be treated as viewpoints with objectivity, it added.

In his reply, Siddiquee said that he used the news which was already in the public domain. He placed reliance on other news channels as sources.

Delay in defamation notice

Moreover, the reply further questions the delay in sending the defamation notice as the video came live in August 2020. The damage of Rs 500 crore is absurd and unwanted. Moreover, it is made with the intention to pressure Siddiquee.

Siddiquee sought Akshay Kumar to withdraw the notice and he said failing that he would initiate appropriate legal processing. Also, he claimed that the star was selectively targeting him

Personal remarks against Kumar

In his reply, he said that, after an interview with an influential politician, Akshay has been facing a severe backlash. Also, thousands of people have made personal remarks against him on several youtube videos and websites. Surprisingly, Akshay Kumar has not taken any action for it. However, he has selectively chosen him to saddle the blame of defamation.

Mumbai police case against Siddiquee

On charges of defamation, the Mumbai police have also filed a case against Siddiquee. The reason being public mischief and intentional insult for his posts against Mumbai police, the Maharashtra government and minister Aaditya Thackeray.

On November 3, Siddiquee was granted anticipatory bail by a local court, which directed him to cooperate in the probe.
