For all those seeking central government jobs, here is a piece of good news amidst all the gloom and doom of pandemic. The Union cabinet has cleared the path to set up a National Recruitment Agency (NRA) which will be empowered to conduct preliminary exams for all central government                      jobs.

The idea behind NRA is to provide a transparent and easy recruitment process for job seekers. The NRA will effectively combine exams conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board, Staff Selection Commission and Institute of Banking Personnel Selection.

At present, 2.5 crore applicants appear for 50 different exams for 1.25 lakh government jobs every year. Candidates need to pay separate fees for all the exams conducted by different recruiting agencies and travel great distances to reach the recruitment centres.
The NRA, proposed to remove these problem areas by coming up with a common admission test for tier 1 exams for multiple government jobs.

Eligibility Test

The NRA’s common eligibility test (CET) gives more choice to job seekers. Graduate, Higher secondary (12th) and Matriculate (10th pass) are the three levels for which CET will be conducted. For technical posts, CET shall replace the Tier 1 exams held by the SSC, Railway recruitment boards and institute of Banking personnel selection. CET will shortlist candidates for Group B and C posts in various departments of the central government.

 

More Options For Job Seekers

There is another good news for the job seekers – Standard curriculum and degree of difficulty of CET conducted in multiple Indian languages. Agency will make final selection based on the CET scores, through separate specialised Tier 2/ Tier 3 examinations. These examinations will be conducted by recruitment agencies.

The CET scores of candidates will be valid for a period of three years. An additional benefit will be that the best CET score secured by any candidate will be considered for the recruitment process. No restriction on the number of attempts made by candidates, subject to upper age limit prescribed. Relaxation for applicants of SC/ST/OBC/PwD extended in age and other criteria.

 

Transparent Recruitment

CET will help reduce the time taken for the selection process. It will mitigate hardships for students by reducing the stress of appearing for multiple exams with similar eligibility conditions.
They will conduct exams over 1000 centres. Every district, including the 117 aspirational districts, will have at least one exam centre. Candidates can choose their centres according to their convenience. Candidates can share CET score beshared with the central government, state government, UTs, PSUs and private sector units. This will also help in cost cutting and time spent in recruitment.

Streamlining Recruitment

In the beginning they will conduct CET twice a year. Registration, distribution of admit cards or roll numbers, display or marks, merit list etc will be conducted online. The candidates given multiple choice, objective type question papers. The candidates appearing in the subsequent specialized exams, reduced to nearly 5% of the total number of candidates.
