Avanti Fellows, Helping Fellows
The institute credits the consistent and successful performance at JEE Entrance Examinations to Avanti Fellows; a non-profit organization. The organization is pioneered by two IIT alumni who aim to create a ground playing level for the lesser privileged. Avanti aims to provide students from humble backgrounds the same opportunities as those coming from a more fortunate one. Of 270 students training under Avanti who appeared for JEE Mains 2020, 70 cleared JEE Mains. 52 of these students scored above 90 percentile.
Avanti Fellows was established in the year 2010 by former IITians Akshay Saxena and Krishna Ramkumar with Pan-IIT Alumni organization. Akshay pursued an MBA from Harvard Business School, while Krishna is a gold medalist from the prestigious IIT Bombay. Saxena, while speaking to India Today said, “We have seen a consistently high performance at JNV Puducherry with 100% of the students qualifying JEE Mains and over 90% of the students qualifying JEE Advanced”. He further added, “The reason for this tremendous success is the dedication of the school principal as well as the JNV samiti and the tireless efforts of over 30 IIT Madras students who actively mentor and teach these students”.
Avanti’s Contribution and Sucesss
Over a span of 10 years, the organization has carved a niche for itself remarkably across 16 states and 3 Union Territories. The non-profit institute is making a change in the lives of over a million students. Avanti follows ‘Peer Instruction’ Pedagogy as a teaching methodology. This reduces students’ dependency on teachers and promotes collaborative learning among students. The organization also provides a 2 year course to Government school students. While focusing on Math and Science, it provides them access to study materials, books and electronic gadgets. This helps students with the learning process, making it seamless and engaging.
Avanti Fellows do not stop here in their vision to help students and their futures. It launched the ‘Sankalp’ YouTube channel for Hindi medium government school students from classes 9 to 12. The channel is in partnership with government school teachers and pedagogical experts in India and also at Harvard University. Avanti has performed better than the most expensive IIT coaching classes. Akshay Saxena also stated, “Over the past 10 years, we have shown that our students outperform the most expensive after-school programs in the country at less than one-fourth the cost.”
