Marwari College in Ranchi was established in 1963. It is affiliated to Ranchi University. The college was founded by Marwari Shiksha Trust in 1963. The purpose behind its inception was to facilitate the higher education for young and promising students of the society. Especially the tribes and downtrodden students. Marwari College, Ranchi came into existence because of the sincere and incessant efforts of Late Ganga Prasad Budhia. He was the first president of Marwari College Governing Body. Moreover, the college started with around 170 students. However, 30 students out of 170 were in pre-university courses and 76 in B Com and 64 in BA. Later in the year 1980, it was taken over by the government and it became a constituent unit of Ranchi University.

Presently it is an Autonomous Institution and has got NAAC Accreditation for Higher Studies and formerly had ‘Potential for Excellence’ Award given by UGC. Marwari College is providing Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Regular Courses to the students.

Courses offered by the College


The College also offers Under Graduate and Post-Graduate Job Oriented Courses. The college offers Bachelor’s degrees in Arts, Commerce and Science. Also, the college offers vocational honors courses which include Biotechnology, Computer Application, Computer Maintenance, Information Technology, Fashion Designing, Business Administration, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics.

Moreover, the college was recognized by UGC in 1968 U/s 2(F) & 12(B) as per UGC Act 1956. In 1980, it was taken over by the Government under Ranchi University as its Constituent Unit. Marwari College got its first NAAC Accreditation in May 2004 (B++ as per Old Grading & Scoring System with 80.65 points). Besides that, the college received Autonomous status from 2009 to 2015 by the University Grants Commission. In addition to that, in the year 2010, the UGC selected the college under Potential for Excellence Scheme. Also, the college got Grade B with 2.85 CGPA in the Re-accreditation done by the NAAC in the year 2011.

Mission and Vision of Marwari College Ranchi –


Marwari College’s mission is to improve the graduate outcomes and to train students in professional and soft skills. The college vision is to exploit the potential strength of the college and synchronize it with available resources to create an ecosystem for quality in the teaching-learning system. Moreover, it aims to consequently ignite the brains of the young generation for the betterment of society.

Placement –

Marwari College, Ranchi has a well-organised placement cell. Several Industrial and Corporate houses from all over the country visit the campus to recruit the students. Since 2005, the college has 1834 placements. Dr B. B. Lal Sir (Prof.-In-Charge) heads the placement Cell followed by a list of team members who coordinate along with the visiting team for the support & success of a placement drive. In addition to tech companies TCS, Wipro and SAP, the Companies that visit the campus include L&T, TCS Ignite, Concentrix, TCS BPS, Airtel, ICICI & many more. During the campus drives, these companies select students through online tests & series of technical & HR rounds.

Admission and entrance examination –

Marwari College, Ranchi conducts Entrance Examination for admission in B.Sc. (Hons. in IT & CA), BBA, MCA programs. Whereas admission in the rest of the courses is done on the basis of merit in the pre-qualifying examination. For admission in any of the undergraduate courses, candidates must secure at least 45% marks in Intermediate (class 12) or equivalent examination from any recognized School or University. However, the college conducts an entrance examination to shortlist the candidates for admission in the B.Sc. (Hons.) IT & CA and BBA programs.

While, the selection for the rest of the courses is on basis of marks obtained in Class 12th (Arts/ Science/ Commerce) in aggregate candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline from a recognized university in order to meet the eligibility criteria of the PG programs. Moreover, Candidates seeking admission in the MBA program must secure at least 50% marks in aggregate of B.A.(Hons.)/B.Sc. (Hons.)/B.Com. In addition to that, the candidate must have a valid score card of CAT/ MAT/ XAT/ ATMA/ CMAT.

Whereas, Admission in the M.Com and M.Sc programs is done on the basis of merit in Bachelor’s degree level examination. Also, candidates seeking admission to the MCA program, need to appear for an Entrance Examination which is conducted by Marwari College. How to apply/ Application Process –

1. Registration – First and foremost step is to register online by providing full name, date of birth, mobile number, email id and category. Moreover, after submitting these details registration number will be generated. Note down the generated number.
2. Pay registration fee- Applicants can pay the application fee online using a credit, debit card, net banking or through E Challan. Take note of transaction number. However, don’t pay online application fee directly through NEFT or RTGS. Candidates can also check the amount of application fee below.

Programme – Application fee
Intermediate – Rs 400
Certificate Course (Amanat) – Rs 500
Vocational Undergraduate – Rs 800

3. Fill Online Application Form – To fill the application form Candidates will have to login using Registration number and password. Also enter personal details like educational and contact details. After successful submission of the application form, the candidates will receive a number.
4. Upload Photograph and Documents – Candidates need to upload scanned copies of the following documents –

  • Passport size photograph – should be in jpg format and file size less than 20 kb
  • Last passing mark sheet- file size should be less than 100 kb
  • Residential certificate – file size should be less than 100 kb
  • Caste certificate for SC/ST/BC-I/BC-II – file size should be less than 100 kb
  • Income certificate for ST/SC/BC-I/BC-II – file size should be less than 100 kb.

5. Also, print the Confirmation page and payment receipt


Eligibility Details –

Intermediate – candidates must have passed class 10 exam from a recognized board with at least 50 % marks.
Vocational Undergraduate –
B.Sc (H) Biotechnology – candidates must have passed intermediate (class 12) exam with Biology.
B.Sc (H) Computer Application (BCA) – candidates must have passed intermediate (class 12) exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
B.Sc (H) IT – candidates must have passed intermediate (class 12) exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
B.Sc (H) Computer Maintenance (BCM) – candidates must have passed the intermediate exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
BA (H) Fashion Designing – candidates must have passed the intermediate examination.
B. Com (H) in Business Administration (BBA) – candidates must have qualified the intermediate examination.
B. Sc (H) Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics – candidates must have qualified intermediate examination.
1 year Amanat Certificate Course – Applicants must have passed class 12.
