Notes on Browsing Internet

Internet is a major tool to communicate, socialize, shop and work.  It is a world wide network of millions of interconnected computers. The computers on internet communicate with each other using some set of rules known as Protocols.

World Wide Web

World Wide Web consists of millions of documents or ‘bunch of pages’ , called Web pages, containing links to documents and resources throughout the internet. Each page may contain text, graphics, videos, audios and link to other web pages. WWW  supports documents formatted in a markup language called HTML. It uses HTTP to transfer these documents over the internet.  It was developed by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989.
Multimedia- Multimedia is the combination of text, audio, video, graphics and animation.

Elements of multimedia

Text– Text is the most fundamental element of multimedia project. We can choose different types of fonts, colour and styles to compose and edit our text.
Graphics– Graphics can be inserted into a multimedia project in the form of drawings, designs and photos.
Sound- It can be added to a multimedia presentation by importing sounds from an audio CD or from the internet.
Video- Videos are moving images which can be incorporated into a multimedia project. They can be downloaded from the internet and imported from other resources like CD,  DVD etc.
Animation– Graphics that contain movement are referred to as animation.

Real Time Communication-

The term ‘ Real Time ‘ means live. It is a mode of communication in which users can exchange information instantly or with negligible delay. Some exampls of RTC are-
Video Conferencing- It allows people at different locations to communicate simultaneously by two way audio and video transmission.
Chat- A  Chat is an online conversation in which we can instantly send messages back and forth to one another using internet.
VOIP- VOIP technology is used for delivering different kinds of data from a source to a destination using IP. It establishes voice communication over internet.
File Sharing- This technology is used to send files among participants.
Skype
Skype is one of the most popular application or VOIP service. It allows to do instant messaging and make voice and video calls to fellow Skype users on the internet for free.
Basic requirements for Skype-
  • You must have a high speed internet.
  • You should have speakers or headphones and a microphone.
  • A webcam is needed for video call
Blog

A Blog is an easy to create website by users where they share thoughts and information with the world. The word Blog comes from weblog because it consist of a log of individual posts. It is like online journal or diary on any topic from a person.

Common features of Blog-
  • Its posts appear in reverse chronological order. The most recent blog post appears first.
  • It is updated frequently and regularly.
  • Blogs can have individual author or a collection of authors.
  • Blogs have an area of people to comment or respond to the blog post.
  • They have a history or an archive of previous blog posts.
