For a long time, Whatsapp has been working on a new self disappearing messages features. Now in an update on its support page, WhatsApp has confirmed the existence of the self disappearing message feature. Moreover, it has also divulged details about the upcoming features.
The company has revealed that the self disappearing message features of WhatsApp will be available in its Android and iOS-based apps. Moreover, it also is available on KaiOS, WhatsApp web and its desktop application.
You can turn on or off self disappearing message feature of WhatsApp
According to the company, after the feature is enabled, new messages will disappear after seven days. This includes messages in group chat or individual chat. However, the setting won’t affect the messages that a user had either sent or received previously. The most interesting thing about the self disappearing feature of WhatsApp is that while in an individual chat, either user can turn disappearing messages on or off. However, in a group chat, only admins can turn disappearing messages on or off.
The message will disappear in seven days
WhatsApp says that if a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in seven days, the message will disappear. However, the notification preview of the message might appear until the user opens WhatsApp again. Also, the initial message will appear as a quote after a user responds to a message. Even after seven days, the quoted text might remain in the chat if you reply to a disappearing message.
The message won’t disappear
The company also said that the message won’t disappear in the forwarded chat. Also, before the message disappears, if the user has created a backup, it will include the disappearing message. However, when a user restores from backup, the messages will be deleted.
Media sent in the chat will disappear
WhatsApp says that media sent in the chat will disappear if the option for disappearing messages is on. However, it will be saved in the phone if auto-download is on.
